What Finish Should I Apply to a Meranti Exterior Door?
Meranti exterior doors must be sealed, stained, or painted before installation. All faces, edges, and end grain should be coated with a quality exterior wood primer and finish system. A minimum of two finish coats over a primer is recommended. Do not install the door unfinished — prolonged exposure to moisture will cause swelling, warping, and paint adhesion failure. Re-coat all exposed surfaces every 2–3 years depending on sun and rain exposure.

This construction method provides excellent rigidity and weather resistance while keeping the door weight manageable. The Meranti slats and frame in this door are all solid timber — the term “semi-solid” refers to the construction method, not the quality of the timber used.
