Certification & Fire Test Details

This fire door assembly has been independently tested and classified in accordance with South African national standards:

  • Test Authority: FIRELAB cc, Pretoria
  • Classification Standard: SANS 1253 (fire door sets)
  • Test Method: SANS 10177-2 (fire resistance tests for building elements)
  • Classification Achieved: SANS 1253 – Class B (120-Minute Fire Door Assembly)
  • Certificate Reference: FTC 25/099 (valid until December 2030)
  • Full Test Report: FTC 20/199 (available on request)

Verified Fire Performance:

  • Stability (R): Maintained for 120 minutes
  • Integrity (E): Maintained for 120 minutes
  • Insulation (I): Maintained for 60 minutes

Note: The tested assembly achieved E120 (120-minute integrity) — exceeding the minimum E60 integrity requirement for Class B doors under SANS 1253. This confirms superior flame and smoke containment performance.

Tested Assembly: Single-leaf door with symmetric MgO (Magnesium Oxide) composite core and Meranti hardwood edges, mounted in a 25 × 50mm steel frame with 3 hinges and a door closer. Tested in two configurations: as a fire escape door (outward-opening with a certified 3-point panic push-bar) and as an exit door (inward-opening with a standard lockset). The Class B certification covers both configurations when installed accordingly.

Official fire test certificate available on request for architects, fire consultants, inspectors, and insurers (FIRELAB Ref: FTC 25/099).

Typical Applications

Suitable where a 120-minute (2-hour) fire-rated door is required under South African building regulations (SANS 10400-T), including:

  • Stairwells and lift lobby shafts
  • Major fire-break walls in large commercial, industrial, or public buildings
  • High-risk fire compartment boundaries
  • Main escape routes in multi-storey developments
  • Areas requiring SANS 1253 Class B compliance

Installation note: The Class B rating is valid only when installed as a complete assembly equivalent to the tested configuration — including the matching steel frame, 3 hinges, door closer, and either a certified panic push-bar (outward escape) or approved lockset (inward exit).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Class B fire door?

A Class B fire door provides 120 minutes (2 hours) of fire resistance. In South Africa, Class B fire doors are classified to SANS 1253 and tested to SANS 10177-2. This assembly achieved R120/E120/I60 — 120 minutes of structural stability and flame integrity, and 60 minutes of thermal insulation.

What does R120/E120/I60 mean?

These are the three fire resistance criteria: Stability (R) – the door remains structurally intact for 120 minutes; Integrity (E) – no flames or hot gases pass through for 120 minutes; Insulation (I) – the unexposed face temperature remains within limits for 60 minutes. The E120 result exceeds the minimum Class B requirement of E60.

Where are Class B fire doors required?

Class B fire doors are typically required in stairwells, lift lobbies, corridors, and between fire compartments in commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, and multi-storey residential developments. Requirements are governed by SANS 10400-T and your project’s fire strategy.

Do these fire doors come pre-hung?

Yes. All our Class B fire doors are supplied pre-hung in a double-rebated mild steel frame with stainless steel hinges, ready for installation. This ensures the door and frame system performs as a tested unit.

Can I get a custom size?

Yes. Custom sizes are available on request with a lead time of 14–21 working days. Contact us with your opening dimensions to discuss your requirements.

What finish options are available?

This door is supplied with a commercial veneer skin, untreated and ready for oiling or staining to your preferred finish.

Can I get the test certificate?

Yes. Certificate FTC 25/099 (FIRELAB cc, valid until December 2030) and full test report FTC 20/199 are available on request.
