Description

Hardwood 2CE Horizontal Slatted Pivot Door – Pre-Hung in Frame | 1200 x 2032mm

The Hardwood 2CE Horizontal Slatted Pivot Door is a premium semi-solid exterior pivot door manufactured from Eucalyptus Grandis timber — a dense, durable hardwood with a SABS Class 1 Exterior Rating. Pre-hung in a matching solid hardwood frame and supplied with a factory-fitted lock and pivot hinge, this door is built for performance in demanding semi-exterior and sheltered exterior applications.

Unlike pine-based doors in this range, this door is supplied raw and untreated. It must be treated on site with an appropriate exterior-grade wood oil or penetrating sealer before and after installation. Painting this door will void the warranty.

What Is a Pivot Door?

A pivot door rotates on a top and bottom pivot point rather than side-mounted hinges. This allows for wider, heavier door panels and creates a distinctive architectural swing that is increasingly popular in modern and statement entrances across South Africa.

Why Eucalyptus Grandis?

Eucalyptus Grandis is a dense, stable hardwood with a natural SABS Class 1 exterior rating, making it one of the most durable timber species available for exterior door applications in South Africa. Its tight grain structure and natural oils provide inherent resistance to moisture and decay when correctly maintained.

Treatment & Care — Important: This Door Is Supplied Raw

This door must not be painted. Painting will void the warranty. Use only penetrating exterior-grade wood oils or sealers.

  • Treat immediately after delivery with a minimum of 2–3 coats of a quality exterior-grade penetrating wood oil or sealer on all 6 surfaces (4 edges + 2 flat faces), including the top and bottom end-grain edges.
  • Re-treat every 12 months or as required depending on exposure conditions.
  • Do not paint — painting will void the guarantee.
  • Storage: Store upright or flat on a minimum of 3 dunages in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and rain.
  • Do not install while plaster or screeding is still wet.
  • If any cutting is done at installation, treat those surfaces immediately with the same exterior-grade oil or sealer.
  • Failure to meet any of the above criteria will void the guarantee on the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SABS Class 1 Exterior Rating?
SABS Class 1 is the highest exterior durability classification under South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) timber grading. It indicates the timber is naturally resistant to decay and suitable for exterior applications, including exposure to moisture and weather when correctly maintained.

Can I paint this door?
No. Painting this door will void the warranty. This door must be treated with a penetrating exterior-grade wood oil or sealer only. Paint forms a surface film that traps moisture and prevents the timber from breathing, which can cause delamination and cracking.

Why is this door supplied raw and not pre-stained?
Eucalyptus Grandis performs best when treated with penetrating oils that allow the timber to breathe. Factory pre-staining with a surface finish is not appropriate for this species and application. Treating on site ensures the correct product is applied to suit your specific conditions.

What is a pivot door and how does it differ from a hinged door?
A pivot door rotates on a top and bottom pivot mechanism rather than side-mounted hinges. This allows for wider, heavier door panels and a distinctive architectural swing. There are no side hinges on a pivot door.

Does the door come ready to install?
Yes. The door arrives pre-hung in its frame with the lock and pivot hinge factory-fitted. Treat all surfaces with exterior-grade wood oil before installation.

Is this door suitable for fully exposed exterior use?
This door carries a SABS Class 1 Exterior Rating and is more weather-resistant than pine-based semi-exterior doors. However, for maximum longevity, installation in a sheltered or partially covered position is still recommended, with regular re-treatment every 12 months.
