A clean, contemporary internal door at an accessible price point. The Swartland Kayo 5 Panel Horizontal Grooved Door features five horizontal shallow-grooved panels that bring subtle texture and visual interest to any interior space — from bedrooms and studies to hallways and living areas.
Supplied pre-primed in white and ready for your choice of topcoat, this door is a practical, paint-ready solution for new builds, renovations, and replacement door projects across South Africa.
A light duty door uses a hollow-core construction with MDF (medium-density fibreboard) skins bonded over an internal frame. This makes it lighter and more affordable than solid or solid-core doors, while still providing a smooth, paintable surface. Light duty doors are best suited to internal applications such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and passage doors — not exterior or high-traffic commercial use.
Pre-primed means the door has been factory-coated with a white primer before delivery. This seals the MDF surface and provides a ready base for your chosen paint or topcoat — saving you time and ensuring a more even final finish. Simply sand lightly, apply your topcoat, and hang.
Grooved panel doors offer the visual appeal of a traditional panelled door with the cost efficiency of MDF construction. The horizontal groove pattern suits both modern and transitional interior styles, and the smooth MDF skin takes paint exceptionally well — making it easy to match any interior colour scheme.
Lock and hinge blocks are pre-fitted on both sides, giving you flexibility to hang the door as left- or right-hand opening. Professional installation is recommended. Apply a quality interior paint topcoat before or after hanging for best results.
Usually in stock. Lead time is 1–2 business days. Nationwide delivery available across South Africa.
Can this door be used in a bathroom?
Yes — this door is suitable for bathroom use as an internal door. However, MDF is moisture-sensitive, so it is essential to seal all six sides (including top and bottom edges) with a quality paint or primer before installation to prevent moisture ingress.
Does it need to be painted before hanging?
The door is supplied pre-primed and can be hung as-is, but applying a topcoat before installation is recommended for best results — particularly to seal the top and bottom edges which are most vulnerable to moisture.
Is this door suitable for exterior use?
No. This is a light duty hollow-core MDF door rated for internal use only. It is not suitable for exterior or semi-exterior applications.
What size frame does this door fit?
This door is 813mm wide × 2032mm high × 40mm thick. It fits a standard South African 813 x 2032mm door frame opening. Always confirm your frame rebate dimensions before ordering.
Can I get this door in other sizes?
The Swartland Kayo range is available in multiple sizes. Contact us to check availability of other widths and heights in this panel design.
What is the groove depth on this door?
The Swartland Kayo 5 Panel door features 5 horizontal shallow grooves with a depth of 3mm. This gives the door its subtle textured appearance without the deep relief of a traditional timber panel door.
Can I cut this door down to size?
Hollow-core MDF doors have limited trimming allowance. As a general rule, do not trim more than 10mm per side (20mm total width) or more than 20mm from the top or bottom, as cutting beyond the hinge and lock blocks will expose the hollow core and compromise the door’s structural integrity. If you need a non-standard size, contact Doors Direct before ordering.
