Description

SC22108 Strongwood® Security Window – 3375mm Wide × 920mm High

The SC22108 is an extra-wide Strongwood® Security Window with a six-section layout: two full-height opening sashes on the outer left and right, and four fixed centre panels. This configuration is ideal for large openings such as feature walls, entertainment areas, and wide living room spans where maximum glazed area and security are both priorities. Solid lengths of steel are encased within each cottage pane bar, and the bars are fixed to the frame — not the sash — so the window remains secure even when open.

How the Strongwood® System Works

A standard cottage pane window has timber horizontal and vertical bars on the opening sashes. On a Strongwood® window, the cottage pane bars are fixed to the frame — not the sash. The opening sash is full pane, which means:

  • Easy cleaning – the full pane sash opens freely with no bars obstructing access to the glass
  • Secure when open – the steel-cored bars remain fixed to the frame, so the window is guarded whether open or closed
  • Genuine burglar resistance – solid steel lengths encased inside every timber bar make them extremely difficult to cut or force

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the layout of the SC22108?

The SC22108 has six sections: a full-height opening sash on the far left, four fixed centre panels, and a full-height opening sash on the far right. The fixed centre panels maximise the glazed area while the two outer sashes provide ventilation on both sides.

What hardware is supplied with this window?

The SC22108 is supplied with mild steel easy-clean friction hinges and solid brass handles. The top rail includes an integrated weather strip that overlaps the opening sash to prevent water ingress — no additional sealing is required at the top of the frame.

What makes a Strongwood® window different from a standard cottage pane window?

On a standard cottage pane window, the horizontal and vertical timber bars are part of the opening sash. On a Strongwood® window, the bars are fixed to the frame and the opening sash is full pane. This means the sash opens freely for easy cleaning, while the steel-cored bars remain in place — keeping the window secure whether it is open or closed.

What makes a Strongwood® window more secure than a standard timber window?

Strongwood® windows have solid lengths of steel encased inside each cottage pane bar. Standard timber bars can be cut or forced. The steel core in Strongwood® bars makes them extremely difficult to compromise. Because the bars are fixed to the frame rather than the sash, they cannot be bypassed by simply opening the window.

Is this window secure when open?

Yes — this is one of the defining advantages of the Strongwood® system. The steel-cored bars are fixed to the frame, not the sash. When the outer sashes are open for ventilation, the bars remain in place across the opening, maintaining full burglar resistance.

Is this window easy to clean?

Yes. Because the outer opening sashes are full pane (the bars are on the frame, not the sash), the glass is fully accessible when the window is open — making cleaning straightforward compared to a standard cottage pane window where bars obstruct the sash.

Does this window include glass?

No. Glass is excluded and must be sourced and fitted separately by a glazier. This is standard for South African timber windows. Ensure you measure each individual pane opening accurately before ordering glass.

Which direction does this window open?

The two outer opening sashes open outwards, which is standard for South African timber windows. The four centre panels are fixed and do not open.

What finish is applied to this window?

The window is supplied unfinished. After installation, apply a quality exterior wood paint, stain, or sealer suitable for timber windows. Seal all surfaces — including the bottom rail and any end grain — to protect against moisture and extend the life of the window.

What size is this window?

The SC22108 measures 3375mm wide × 920mm high. This is an extra-wide format window suited to large feature openings such as living rooms, entertainment areas, and wide residential spans.

What is the lead time?

Lead time is 14–21 days from order confirmation. Nationwide delivery is available across South Africa.
