The Swartland Kayo Half Glass Aluminium Stable Door (Inward Opening) combines classic split-door functionality with a modern aluminium frame and clear safety glass upper panel. This version opens inward and is supplied with a weather bar to minimise water ingress — making it suitable for back doors, utility entrances, and semi-exterior applications where ventilation, security, and weather protection are all priorities.
Available in left- or right-hand configurations and four popular anodized finishes. Select your preferred handle side and colour on this product page before adding to cart.
What is a stable door?
A stable door (also called a Dutch door) is split horizontally so the top and bottom halves can open independently. This allows ventilation through the top while the bottom remains closed — useful for homes with pets or young children, or any entrance where you want airflow without full access.
What is the difference between inward opening and outward opening?
An inward-opening door swings into the interior of the building when opened. An outward-opening door swings away from the building. Inward-opening doors are common in South African residential construction and are generally easier to weatherseal, though they require clear floor space inside. This version (OI) opens inward and includes a weather bar to reduce water ingress at the threshold.
Why does the inward-opening version include a weather bar?
When a door opens inward, the threshold is more exposed to rain and wind-driven water than an outward-opening door. The weather bar is fitted at the base of the frame to deflect water and minimise ingress at the door sill.
How do I determine left-hand vs right-hand configuration?
Stand outside the building facing the door. If you want the handle on the left side, select “Handle on left hand side”. If you want the handle on the right side, select “Handle on right hand side”. The hinge will be on the opposite side to the handle. If you are unsure, contact Doors Direct before ordering.
Can the top and bottom of the stable door be locked together?
Yes — most stable doors include a shoot bolt or connecting bolt that allows the top and bottom halves to be locked together so the door operates as a single unit when required. Contact Doors Direct to confirm the specific locking mechanism included with this door.
Is this door suitable for coastal or high-humidity environments?
Yes. The anodized aluminium frame is corrosion-resistant and performs well in coastal South African conditions. Woolpile seals also help exclude salt-laden air and moisture.
What does SANS 613 approval mean?
SANS 613 is the South African National Standard for aluminium windows and doors, covering performance requirements for weather resistance, structural integrity, and operation. SANS 613 approval confirms the product meets these standards for residential and commercial buildings.
Is this door pre-hung?
Yes. The door is supplied pre-hung in its aluminium frame, complete with lock, hinges, and handle, ready for installation by a qualified installer.
What colours are available?
The Kayo stable door is available in Bronze, Charcoal, Silver, and White anodized finishes. Select your preferred colour on this product page before adding to cart.
What is the lead time for this door?
This door has a lead time of 10–12 working days. Nationwide delivery is available across South Africa.
