Meranti Frame, Ledge & Braced Door — 813 × 2032mm

The Meranti Frame, Ledge & Braced Door, also known as an F&L Braced, FLB, or Z-Brace Door, is a traditional solid timber exterior building door. It is manufactured from kiln-dried Meranti and features a framed and ledged construction with a diagonal Z-brace on the back face for additional rigidity and resistance to racking.

Important Installation and Intended Use

This product is an exterior building door. It is not designed for use as a freestanding garden gate, pedestrian gate, or boundary gate.

The Z-brace improves rigidity and resistance to racking, but it does not change the door’s intended application or protect the timber from unrestricted weather exposure. Install the door within a properly constructed building opening and door frame. The top edge must be protected from direct water entry, and the installation must not leave both faces and the top edge continuously exposed to rain, sunlight, and moisture.

Before or immediately after installation, seal all six sides, including the top and bottom edges, with a suitable exterior-grade primer, paint, stain, or sealer. Follow the finish manufacturer’s application and maintenance instructions. Meranti is a natural timber and may absorb moisture, swell, move, or distort if moisture enters through inadequately sealed surfaces or if the door is used outside its intended application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a frame, ledge and braced door?
A frame, ledge and braced door is a traditional timber door construction. The frame forms the outer perimeter, the ledges are horizontal rails across the back face, and the diagonal brace adds rigidity and helps resist sagging or racking.

What does the Z-brace do?
The Z-brace is a diagonal timber member fixed across the back face between the horizontal ledges. It improves rigidity and helps the door resist racking. It does not make the door suitable for gate use or unrestricted exposure on both faces and the top edge.

Can this door be used as a garden or pedestrian gate?
No. This is a building door and is not designed for use as a freestanding garden gate, pedestrian gate, or boundary gate. Gate installations can expose both faces and the top edge continuously to rain, sunlight, and moisture, which can cause natural timber to swell, move, or distort.

Is this door suitable for exterior use?
Yes. It is intended for use as an exterior building door installed within a properly constructed doorway and frame. The top edge must be protected from direct water entry, and all six sides must be correctly sealed and maintained.

Does this door come with a frame?
No. This is a door only and does not include a frame. Browse our 813 × 2032mm door frames or contact us at info@doorsdirect.co.za or on WhatsApp at 087 012 5283.

What hardware do I need?
A standard exterior building-door installation requires Door Handles, Door Locks, and Door Hinges, available separately.

How must the door be finished?
Before or immediately after installation, seal all six sides, including the top and bottom edges, with a suitable exterior-grade finish. Maintain the finish according to the coating manufacturer’s instructions and the door’s level of exposure.

Are rebated pairs available?
Yes. Rebated pairs are available for double-door openings. Contact us at info@doorsdirect.co.za or on WhatsApp at 087 012 5283 for custom sizes, pricing, and lead times.

What is the lead time?
This door is usually in stock with a lead time of 1–2 days from order confirmation.
