The Full Pane Glass Pivot Door is a pre-hung entrance door crafted from solid Meranti kiln-dried timber, designed to flood your entrance with natural light. Rebated to accept a single full pane of glass, this door is supplied with glazing beads ready for glazing — giving you the flexibility to choose your preferred glass type. The factory-fitted lock and pivot hinge mean the unit arrives ready to install.
Available in left-hand and right-hand configurations, this pivot door suits covered entrances, verandas, and sheltered semi-exterior doorways where a light-filled, architectural statement is desired.
A pivot door rotates on a top and bottom pivot point rather than side-mounted hinges, allowing for wider, heavier door panels with a smooth, balanced swing. Pivot doors are a defining feature of contemporary and luxury home design in South Africa, offering a bold architectural presence that conventional hinged doors cannot match.
A pre-hung door is supplied already fitted within its frame, with the lock and pivot hinge factory-installed and aligned. This eliminates the need to source and fit hardware separately, reduces installation time, and ensures correct alignment from the outset. Prepare your opening to the specified frame dimensions and install the complete unit.
The full pane glass rebate spans the majority of the door leaf, maximising natural light flow into your entrance hall or interior space. Because the door is supplied without glass, you can specify your preferred glazing — clear float, frosted, tinted, laminated safety glass, or double-glazed units — to suit your privacy, security, and thermal requirements. Glazing beads are included to secure the glass panel once fitted.
This door is rated for semi-exterior use, meaning it performs best in covered or sheltered entrance positions such as verandas, porticos, or enclosed entrance lobbies where it is protected from direct rain and prolonged UV exposure. Correct timber treatment and periodic maintenance are essential to preserve the door's performance and appearance over time.
Stand outside the building, facing the door. If the lock is on your left, select Lock on the Left Hand Side. If the lock is on your right, select Lock on the Right Hand Side. This is the standard South African door hand convention.
Is glass included?
No. The door is supplied without glass but includes glazing beads. You will need to source and fit a glass pane separately. This allows you to choose the glass type that best suits your needs — clear, frosted, safety, or double-glazed.
What glass thickness is recommended?
We recommend consulting your glazier for the appropriate glass thickness based on the pane size and your local wind load requirements. For a 1200mm wide door, a minimum of 6mm toughened safety glass is typically specified.
Does the door open outward?
No. This door is designed to open inward only.
What timber is used?
The frame and door are constructed from solid Meranti, a dense, durable hardwood widely used in South African joinery for its stability, workability, and natural resistance to moisture when correctly treated.
What maintenance is required?
Apply a quality exterior-grade timber sealant or oil finish every 12–24 months depending on exposure. Keep the pivot hardware lubricated and inspect the lock mechanism periodically. Ensure the glazing beads remain secure and re-seal around the glass if required.
What is the lead time?
This door is made to order and typically ships within 12–14 business days.
