Important Installation Notice

This door is designed for semi-exterior use only and must not be directly exposed to rain, wind-driven moisture, or harsh weather. It is suitable for covered entrances, enclosed patios, and internal-to-external transitions with overhead protection.

  • Inspect before installation: Check the lock mechanism, keys, and overall appearance before fitting. Do not install a defective product — no claims will be entertained after installation.
  • Striker plate: The striker plate and keys are temporarily attached to the bottom door frame. Remove the striker plate before installation and refit using it as a template once the door is level and plumb.
  • Wedges/strips: Do not remove the packing strips between the door and frame until installation is complete. A stopper is screwed to the back of the door — remove it after installation.
  • Lintel clearance: The lintel must not rest on top of the door. The door can only be opened 3 days after it has been built in.
  • Sealant (critical): Apply a minimum of 2 coats of quality sealant to all six surfaces — both flat faces and all four edges, including the top and bottom end-grain edges — at installation and at regular intervals thereafter. Failure to seal all six surfaces will void the guarantee.
  • Qualified installation: Ensure a qualified carpenter or builder performs the installation. Trimming or cutting voids the warranty. If any cutting is done, re-seal those surfaces immediately.

Treatment & Care for Your New Door

  • Seal immediately after purchase with a minimum of 3 coats of quality sealant on all 6 surfaces (4 edges + 2 flat faces) to prevent moisture movement and warping.
  • Re-seal every 6 months to ensure maximum longevity.
  • Storage: Store flat on a minimum of 3 dunages spaced equally apart, in a cool, dry area.
  • Do not install while plaster or screeding is still wet. Install as close to occupation of the property as possible.
  • If any planing or cutting is done at installation, re-seal those surfaces immediately.
  • Failure to meet any of the above criteria will void the guarantee on the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this door come with a middle hinge?
This pre-hung door is supplied with two hinges — positioned at the top and bottom of the door — which is standard for this door size and weight. A middle hinge is not required for correct installation. Structural sag or bowing after installation is typically caused by inadequate sealing of all six surfaces (including top and bottom edges), installation in wet conditions, or installation without overhead weather protection.

Why is sealing all six surfaces so important?
Timber moves as it absorbs or releases moisture. If the top and bottom end-grain edges are left unsealed, the door will absorb moisture unevenly, causing it to warp or bow. All six surfaces — both flat faces and all four edges — must be sealed with a minimum of 3 coats of quality sealant immediately after purchase, and re-sealed every 6 months.

Can I install this door in a fully exposed exterior opening?
No. This is a semi-exterior product and must be protected from direct rain and sunlight by an awning, roof, or similar structure. Direct weather exposure will cause warping and will void the guarantee.

What happens if I trim or cut the door during installation?
Any trimming or cutting voids the warranty. If cutting is unavoidable, all cut surfaces must be re-sealed immediately with a quality sealant.

When can I start opening and closing the door after installation?
The door can only be opened 3 days after it has been built in to allow the structure to settle correctly.
